Monday
Spent the morning at the mission office. Bussed back and did my email and phone call. Played some basketball at the church. I'm not great at making 3pt shots but up close I'm decent.
Tuesday - Got another baptism date
We had district council and lunch with the district. There was a small restaurant? bar? behind a sweet shop. We had pollo chuco again. (Chicken covered with sauces) We taught this investigator, Esperanza who couldn't read but has been taught the lessons and wants to know if the church is true. She's currently having issues because her family and her family's pastor have been pressuring her not to go to church.
After the lesson we did her dishes using one of the outdoor "sinks". It was a large basin filled with water and had a ledge where you could wash your dishes. You get clean water from the basin, wash the dish, and you deposit the dirty water on the ledge because it had a drain. Later that day we visited an inactive family who had a son that didn't appear in the church records. We talked with them and we got a baptism date for sometime in February.
Wednesday - Intercambios (I think they call it exchanges in English?)
We had intercambios that day. I was with Elder Romero of the Siguatepeque area. Their area is on the other side of town and is really mountainous. Narrow paths, steep roads, etc. We weren't able to do any lessons with investigators because they all canceled. One of them canceled after we walked about a mile to their house. We watched God's Army 2 at their pensionista's house. It's not as good. I did get hot chocolate during dinner though.
We went around knocking on doors with some members and they learned I can play the violin. So when we got back to their house I played a little using theirs. Their violin sounds different so it was a little weird at first. I spent the night at their house (more like a cold metal shed). Their shower is tiny and the house is really cold at night.
Thursday - The other half of p-day
We didn't get to do our laundry on Monday so we did it on this day. Not much else happened.
Friday - Baptism
We had the baptism of one of the ward members that day. I got to do it. We had to repeat it (Rachel didn't like that) because the presiding member and the person conducting didn't think I pronounced it right. The witnesses didn't remember if it was done right or not so we did it again.
Saturday
Walked pretty far to this part of our area. I would knock on a door -nothing. Nuñez would knock and we would get a lesson. One of the people we taught (who had a clothing store) was really interested in what we had to say.
It rained all day. We cleaned the church at night because none of the members were able to/wanted to. There were these cockroaches and we couldn't tell if they were alive or dead. They only moved if you touched them and didn't move much if you did. A member brought us some pizza that didn't have the questionable cheese which was nice (they don't pasteurize their cheese and butter). Our apartment was soaked because of broken drainage pipes under the floor.
Sunday
One of investigators came to church (Adolfo who is 11). We took him their and back. This branch doesn't really understand the concept of 2 hr church (or even starting on time) so by the time it ended it had been 2.5 hours since the time it was supposed to start. It's 40 min round trip to Adolfo's so we left our apartment at 8 and didn't get to our apartment until 12.
We taught a lesson to some members about one the things in Come Follow Me.
Spiritual Experiences this Week
During intercambios we visited this members house. I didn't understand much of the lesson at all but the spirit was still really strong in their home. The Spirit can still be felt even if you don't understand the words they say.
As was mentioned before, while we were on intercambios, we found out one of the members owned a violin. I was able to play for them and one of them accompanied on the piano. I did not expect to play violin on the mission but you never know who you'll run into.
We walk alot every day in this area and at times it's quite difficult. But the instant we start teaching and having lessons, it all becomes worth it. Who cares if your tired and exhausted because it becomes worth it once you start preaching the good news.
