Mountains, Wedding, and Oatmeal

Monday: Del Corral

Our pensionista recommended that we visit this popular grocery store named Del Corral. Its a very nice one close to our house which is great. I found some off brand oatmeal which is 13 servings for like 2 bucks which is really cheap.
We bought these cups but when we got to the cashier we found out they were 100 lempiras each (4 dollars).  That's really expensive here. That's the price of a meal in a restaurant. Speaking of expensive stuff, earlier that morning we went to a cafe and got pancakes and milkshakes and that was pretty expensive too. Just a weird day financially.

Tuesday: Tall Mountain (again)
We decided to go attracting on a tall mountain near our house. It is a very steep incline. There are 2 concrete paths so you can get cars up there. After climbing a bit, we went and visited people. We were able to find four people (and 3 family members later on) which was great. Not much else happened. Appointments fall a lot so we have time to find people.

Wednesday: Lost in Sigua....
We visited a part member family to see what problems they were having. We learned that the father of one of the members wants to get baptized but isn't legally married to his wife yet (common occurrence here). So we are going to have a baptism, after a wedding first and that could take a while.

We wanted to visit a family of members so we headed out to where I thought their house was. (I had visited them several times before for baptismal interviews) I didn't know where it was so we called the sister who lives there. She gave very bad directions so we were very lost for about 30 minutes. Eventually she figured out some better directions so we were able to arrive at her house. Apparently she lives like 2 blocks away from our apartment which is a lot closer than I initially thought.

Thursday: La Mata Tour Guide
The sisters weren't familiar with La Mata (colonia in my previous area where I had a lot of success) so I had to give them a tour. We went and visited some people I hadn't seen in a while. There was no buses because it was the Semana Santa (Holy Week) so we had to walk. There is someone there that wants to be baptized but doesn't feel ready yet. She lives alone so only the sisters can visit her anyways.

After the visit there all of our appointments fell through so we showed the sisters Del Corral. They bought churros (word here for bags of chips made of anything really (pig, banana, potatoes, corn: all churro) and I bought sugar for my oatmeal. Yeah there is a reason we have our pensionistas to cook for us because missionaries here do NOT know how to cook..

Friday: Good Friday
This day was really boring... This is the day during the Semana Santa where everyone is indoors and no one is outside. We were practically in a ghost town because there wasn't anyone. All the stores were closed too.

We were able to have a Family Home Evening with some members and we invited an investigator to the FHE. We taught about the restoration and were able to watch the Ask of God video. She told us she enjoyed it and wanted to pray about it (after we taught her how to pray). The members live really close to her and want to help her if she needs anything which is great.

Saturday: Ward Mission Leader Help

We had our coordination meeting with our ward mission leader. He decided that we should go visit inactive families so we did. We were able to find some part member families that were only part member because of inactivity.

We visited with the members from Wednesday that want to get married so the husband can get baptized. She has doubts because of financial concerns but her adult daughters insist on helping with that.

We are going to help with any wedding preparations which is great. We have the legal requirements and we know how to help. Missionaries marrying couples is just a thing tha5 happens here.

Sunday: These HILLS!!!!
After sacrament meeting and a very boring mission devotional, we headed out to climb some steep hills to teach someone. He wasn’t home so we went and visited his neighbors and found some people.

This distances in this area are smaller but the hills here are so steep!!!

Pictures with Details

Still no letter from Chaz this week, but we talked with him after he sent a bunch of pictures. Here are some of the photos with explanations: Elder Bahr and Elder Jarman at a river near their house. Cooling off in the water. No swimming! Elder Jarman teaching members how to make French Toast Teeter break during the day. There was a whole rabbit cooking thing, not sure if this is rabbit or not. Making corn - said it tastes like popcorn. Skinning and eating rabbit. Chaz says it tasted amazing.

Teaching, Music, Lessons and a Baptism

Monday Spent the morning at the mission office. Bussed back and did my email and phone call. Played some basketball at the church. I'm not great at making 3pt shots but up close I'm decent. Tuesday - Got another baptism date We had district council and lunch with the district. There was a small restaurant? bar? behind a sweet shop. We had pollo chuco again. (Chicken covered  with sauces)  We taught this investigator, Esperanza who couldn't read but has been taught the lessons and wants to know if the church is true. She's currently having issues because her family and her family's pastor have been pressuring her not to go to church.  After the lesson we did her dishes using one of the outdoor "sinks". It was a large basin filled with water and had a ledge where you could wash your dishes. You get clean water from the basin, wash the dish, and you deposit the dirty water on the ledge because it had a drain.  Later that day we visited an inactive family wh...

Last Week (this is late, from the last week of October)

---Baptism--- We had the baptism of Nayeli on Sunday. She had been an investigator for a very long time (since last December) and many missionaries had given up on her. The entire ward attended which was great. We ran out of cake and there wasn't enough seating for everyone. It was great to see her take that step ---Another Baptism--- We attended the baptism of the bishop's daughter on Monday as well. The baptism doesn't count for us, but it's still great to see another baptism for the ward. We were able to help with the prep for it which was fun. We had to tape a mop to a broom to get the door open (hard to fill the font without the keys to it but we managed) ---Spiritual Thought--  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:6  I really like this scripture because of how well it describes the Holy Ghost. He helps us ...
