"Vamos a perdernos" - Let's go get lost

Tuesday: Waiting in Tegucigalpa

We did transfers Tuesday morning (got announced Monday and we do them on Tuesday). We dropped Nuñez off with one of the secretaries and headed to the church building. We arrived with the secretaries (2 hrs late) and went to see if the previous elders have arrived. True to their nature: nope. We had to wait for them to arrive. They arrived 1.5 hours later. The APs were calling them and everything but at least they arrived before 11, kinda.

We headed off to Sigua in a mission taxi because they have to send the taxi to Comayagua anyway to pickup the new gringos. So we packed our district's stuff and headed off. When we arrived, I had to pack up all my stuff quickly because well, I was changing areas. We headed to our house (we have a house) and unpacked. That was it for the day, speed packing and waiting.

The Rest of the Week
To prevent boredom of me repeating myself, the rest of the week kinda was the same. Each day we contacted old investigators, not much of them, visited with Ward Council members (the ones who wanted visits) and were exploring around.

Old Investigators
We are basically starting over with investigators because the previous elders didn’t have very many. We were able to find out that the family of their most recent baptism is interested, but they want to wait for the father to return from Greece (didn't expect that country to appear in these emails). We're still going to visit them and its possible we'll get a baptism in May.

Other than that, we don't got much in terms of older investigators. The previous elders were not too interested in finding people.

Ward Council Members
We visited the Bishop (who has a stomach illness but he can help over whatsapp), the Bishopric, the YWs President (who I had visited before), the Relief Society President, the Primary President, and the Ward Mission Leader. Turns out most of the active members are the Ward Council members. It was weird to find out how the Primary President, the Second Councilor in the Bishopric, and the Ward Mission Leader are all related.

When we visited the YWs President, she made everyone in the house play any instruments that they know how to play. I played violin. Xicará played guitar. The YW President played the recorder, and one of the family members played the piano and trumpet.

I am going to be playing violin in Sacrament meeting on Easter because they wanted me too.

Exploring: aka Lets go get lost!
We spent a couple hours each day just exploring around. We went and found some interested people wherever they lived in our area. Whenever Xicará said "Vamos a perdernos", we went out and walked around.  We got to know some parts pretty well and went contacting when we came across people.

Sunday
The ward has over 700 members, but Sacrament meeting was very empty. We did it as normal (first time in a long time for me) which was strange because they had a zoom meeting going on as well. The Bishop made us give our testimonies (first time in Spanish and in public).

Elder's quorum had very little people and it was in a small classroom.

Xicará
Xicará is a fun and interesting guy. He's obsessed with Tennis Shoes and cake (he asked where was a good bakery way too many times). His grandparents are bakers and cake makers so I guess it makes sense. He's a Guatemalteco (spanish for Guatemalan) and he likes Magic the Gathering (neither of us brought cards but Star Realms is similar?).

He was in the mission office right out of his training so he's not the most experienced with mission work, and the way he teaches is awkward. He can work on that. By Sunday he stopped being creepy with the pamphlets we have. (Here's a pamphlet, adios!). Overall a fun, but rusty missionary who has a thing for cake and way too many tennis shoes.

Pictures with Details

Still no letter from Chaz this week, but we talked with him after he sent a bunch of pictures. Here are some of the photos with explanations: Elder Bahr and Elder Jarman at a river near their house. Cooling off in the water. No swimming! Elder Jarman teaching members how to make French Toast Teeter break during the day. There was a whole rabbit cooking thing, not sure if this is rabbit or not. Making corn - said it tastes like popcorn. Skinning and eating rabbit. Chaz says it tasted amazing.

Teaching, Music, Lessons and a Baptism

Monday Spent the morning at the mission office. Bussed back and did my email and phone call. Played some basketball at the church. I'm not great at making 3pt shots but up close I'm decent. Tuesday - Got another baptism date We had district council and lunch with the district. There was a small restaurant? bar? behind a sweet shop. We had pollo chuco again. (Chicken covered  with sauces)  We taught this investigator, Esperanza who couldn't read but has been taught the lessons and wants to know if the church is true. She's currently having issues because her family and her family's pastor have been pressuring her not to go to church.  After the lesson we did her dishes using one of the outdoor "sinks". It was a large basin filled with water and had a ledge where you could wash your dishes. You get clean water from the basin, wash the dish, and you deposit the dirty water on the ledge because it had a drain.  Later that day we visited an inactive family wh...

Last Week (this is late, from the last week of October)

---Baptism--- We had the baptism of Nayeli on Sunday. She had been an investigator for a very long time (since last December) and many missionaries had given up on her. The entire ward attended which was great. We ran out of cake and there wasn't enough seating for everyone. It was great to see her take that step ---Another Baptism--- We attended the baptism of the bishop's daughter on Monday as well. The baptism doesn't count for us, but it's still great to see another baptism for the ward. We were able to help with the prep for it which was fun. We had to tape a mop to a broom to get the door open (hard to fill the font without the keys to it but we managed) ---Spiritual Thought--  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:6  I really like this scripture because of how well it describes the Holy Ghost. He helps us ...
