Baptism of Paolo

Before we get to that, let's talk about the other things that have happen this week.

Tuesday: So Many Meetings
First off, we had District Council in the morning. President Baquedano and the ZLs visited the meeting as well because we had it in a classroom in the mission office. My District Leader (Elder Shirley) was very stressed the entire time which was a little funny to see.

Afterwards, we had our interviews with Pres Baquedano. It was a pretty normal interview, nothing too specific.

We had English Class that afternoon which, as always, was fun.

We had ward council that night. (Having it on Tuesday is weird)  We gave our presentation type thing and then Temple and Family gave theirs. Afterwards, the bishopric told us that we should coordinate better with our ward mission leader. Temple and Family History coordinates well and we should emulate that.

Wednesday: Meeting our neighbor
We went out and met with one of the members that happens to lives super close to us. We chatted a bit and it was fun and all. He told us that missionaries in the past had been really disobedient and how the members know when the missionaries mess up. We need to be obedient because the members are watching and we need to set an example for the future missionaries.

Thursday: Baptism Interview
We had our baptism interview for Paolo. While we were waiting, we talked with his mom. His mom talked about how Paolo has wanted to get baptized since he turned 8 and that he reads the Book of Mormon out loud to his family. Sometimes the people are prepared, we just have to teach them.

Friday: I can play soccer, kinda
While we were out and about looking for people, we found the group of kids we met a while back. We played a bit of potra (street soccer). I teamed up with one of them and we played in groups of 2. We played in the small street we were in. I scored my first soccer goal in my life (I typically play defense or just don't play). We played to 3 points and my team won a couple of times.

Later that day, we had a lesson with someone we met through English classes. We taught their family (just a mother and her son) about the plan of salvation. At the end, we were talking about how to receive a witness if it was true, and she told us that she believed all of it. It was really nice to have a really good lesson. Teaching the people here is very fun.

Saturday: This is awfully familiar
Because it's one of my baptisms, the power was out all day. We didn't have water to fill the font until 5pm.
After we managed to fill it, all went well with the baptism. Most of Paolo's extended family came to which was great.

We went to Paolo's house afterwards and chatted for a bit. We were able to talk with his father which was cool because we don't see him often.

Sunday: Step 2 Complete
Following tradition, we Paolo's confirmation during sacrament meeting. He uncle did it and it was cool to do it in sacrament meeting.

That's it for this week. Not too much  to talk about, but I did have a baptism!

Pictures with Details

Still no letter from Chaz this week, but we talked with him after he sent a bunch of pictures. Here are some of the photos with explanations: Elder Bahr and Elder Jarman at a river near their house. Cooling off in the water. No swimming! Elder Jarman teaching members how to make French Toast Teeter break during the day. There was a whole rabbit cooking thing, not sure if this is rabbit or not. Making corn - said it tastes like popcorn. Skinning and eating rabbit. Chaz says it tasted amazing.

Teaching, Music, Lessons and a Baptism

Monday Spent the morning at the mission office. Bussed back and did my email and phone call. Played some basketball at the church. I'm not great at making 3pt shots but up close I'm decent. Tuesday - Got another baptism date We had district council and lunch with the district. There was a small restaurant? bar? behind a sweet shop. We had pollo chuco again. (Chicken covered  with sauces)  We taught this investigator, Esperanza who couldn't read but has been taught the lessons and wants to know if the church is true. She's currently having issues because her family and her family's pastor have been pressuring her not to go to church.  After the lesson we did her dishes using one of the outdoor "sinks". It was a large basin filled with water and had a ledge where you could wash your dishes. You get clean water from the basin, wash the dish, and you deposit the dirty water on the ledge because it had a drain.  Later that day we visited an inactive family wh...

Last Week (this is late, from the last week of October)

---Baptism--- We had the baptism of Nayeli on Sunday. She had been an investigator for a very long time (since last December) and many missionaries had given up on her. The entire ward attended which was great. We ran out of cake and there wasn't enough seating for everyone. It was great to see her take that step ---Another Baptism--- We attended the baptism of the bishop's daughter on Monday as well. The baptism doesn't count for us, but it's still great to see another baptism for the ward. We were able to help with the prep for it which was fun. We had to tape a mop to a broom to get the door open (hard to fill the font without the keys to it but we managed) ---Spiritual Thought--  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:6  I really like this scripture because of how well it describes the Holy Ghost. He helps us ...
