Bienvenido a Tiloarque

 ---Tuesday--- Bienvenido a Tiloarque

We got up and went to Tegucigalpa first thing in the morning. We met our new comps and we went off to my new area. I only had to go by taxi so it was pretty fast. I arrived in my new area. Tiloarque. It is a part of the city of Tegucigalpa. It is super hilly. You have to go up or down to go anywhere and there are few flat parts. My apartment is on the 3rd floor of an apartment complex. We do have a pulperia and a mercadito on the first floor so buying things is super easy here.

One thing that is really great about this area is that we have a pensionista. She doesn't live too close, but she does cook really well. On my way to visit her the first time, Elder Alvey (my new companion) told me that she was a Jehovah Witness and she likes to mess with the Elders. I was like "ok" and we went to their house. We ate lunch without talking much and afterwards, the pensionista started talking to me. Asking me to share a scripture or answer a question. I shared something and she got out her scriptures, the same version the church uses. Scriptures made by the church and printed by the church. She continued on saying that she is a Jehovah's witness and the scriptures were hers. Things started to not add up. In her scriptures I found quotes from prophets, invitations to give talks in church, and the yellow part of the tithing slip. Me, being oblivious as usual, asked her again if she was a Jehovah's witness or not and she said that she was. Moments pass and the pensionista and her daughter start singing hymns (from the church of course) and start talking about their family members and how her son served a mission and how he was in the bishopric and everything.  I asked her again and she told me to guess. I didn't guess (don't know why) and then her daughter started talking about her primary calling and how she got baptized 7 years ago or something like that. They asked again if I had a guess and just told them that they were clearly members. They started laughing and said yes. They like to mess with the newer missionaries and try to convince them that they are Jehovah's Witnesses. Welcome to Tiloarque!!!

---Wednesday--- Andy and Adonay (good luck pronouncing the second one)
We went and visited this kid named Andy. We taught him and visited him and learned that the missionaries visited him in the past. He was really good friends with a lot of missionaries. We talked about the restoration and the Book of Mormon and he seemed really interested.

That night we talked with Adonay. He is an older guy and is super interested in everything. He wants to be baptized, knows the church is the true church and everything. He still has to get married to his wife, but they both really want to do it. We have a lawyer in the ward who can help so yay!!!

---Saturday--- Investigative Investigator
Saturday afternoon (yes, that big of a jump) we went and visited Andy again. He read the part of the Book of Mormon we assigned and he prayed about it and got an answer. (cool) We then started talking about baptism. Things got really awkward then. He stopped talking and was really uncomfortable the entire time. We asked about baptism and he said no. He gave the justification that Jesus was 30 when he was baptized which was interesting and yeah. We have to work with him on that one.

Later that night we headed off to visit an investigator with the Relief Society President and her son. During the lesson, the investigator asked tons of questions and knew the story of the restoration pretty well. She loves to ask questions about this thing and that thing and so on. We found out that the missionaries taught her 15 years ago and that the phone number for this area hasn't not changed in all that time, weird. We invited her to read the Book of Mormon so we are going to see how it goes from there

---Sunday--- Stake Meetings....
Sunday morning we had to go to a meeting at the stake center at 7:00 in the morning!!! We got up early, went over there, arrived late, and still beat most of the people to the meeting. The stake center is pretty far out (don't know why) so we took a bus. Because I am not one of the leaders in the zone I got to hang out with the Zone Leader's companion (We have 1 ZL here - really small zone). We didn't have time to get back for our sacrament meeting so we attended at the stake center. It was nice to go to a normal ward after attending a group in the middle of nowhere for 6 weeks. It's nice to know that the church isn't falling apart in all of Honduras.

Pictures with Details

Still no letter from Chaz this week, but we talked with him after he sent a bunch of pictures. Here are some of the photos with explanations: Elder Bahr and Elder Jarman at a river near their house. Cooling off in the water. No swimming! Elder Jarman teaching members how to make French Toast Teeter break during the day. There was a whole rabbit cooking thing, not sure if this is rabbit or not. Making corn - said it tastes like popcorn. Skinning and eating rabbit. Chaz says it tasted amazing.

Teaching, Music, Lessons and a Baptism

Monday Spent the morning at the mission office. Bussed back and did my email and phone call. Played some basketball at the church. I'm not great at making 3pt shots but up close I'm decent. Tuesday - Got another baptism date We had district council and lunch with the district. There was a small restaurant? bar? behind a sweet shop. We had pollo chuco again. (Chicken covered  with sauces)  We taught this investigator, Esperanza who couldn't read but has been taught the lessons and wants to know if the church is true. She's currently having issues because her family and her family's pastor have been pressuring her not to go to church.  After the lesson we did her dishes using one of the outdoor "sinks". It was a large basin filled with water and had a ledge where you could wash your dishes. You get clean water from the basin, wash the dish, and you deposit the dirty water on the ledge because it had a drain.  Later that day we visited an inactive family wh...

Last Week (this is late, from the last week of October)

---Baptism--- We had the baptism of Nayeli on Sunday. She had been an investigator for a very long time (since last December) and many missionaries had given up on her. The entire ward attended which was great. We ran out of cake and there wasn't enough seating for everyone. It was great to see her take that step ---Another Baptism--- We attended the baptism of the bishop's daughter on Monday as well. The baptism doesn't count for us, but it's still great to see another baptism for the ward. We were able to help with the prep for it which was fun. We had to tape a mop to a broom to get the door open (hard to fill the font without the keys to it but we managed) ---Spiritual Thought--  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:6  I really like this scripture because of how well it describes the Holy Ghost. He helps us ...
