Stake Conference

 ---Tuesday--- "Pónganse Pilas" (This phrase is too Honduran to have a translation in English, sorry)

We had our multizones in the morning. The APs talked about how we need to work on the small things. We are doing well with the big stuff but there is always room for improvement.

Our president talked about becoming better at getting our investigators to find personal revelation. They need to get answers for themselves and we just need to be there to guide them. He said we need to "Pongase pilas" and continually try harder to be great.

(explanation for pongase pilas: pilas is the word people use for someone who is just great at their calling or what they do. We use the word pilas to describe the people who just want to help us out a ton. They are the people who are full in and just dedicated to the work. It's also used for something that is just really really great. Pongase just means become or as it literally translates "put yourself". So I guess you can translate it as "Make yourself great" or "Become great" but I feel that this explanation is sufficient albeit being one paragraph just to explain some Honduran slang. Sorry but not sorry for the language lesson)

---Wednesday--- Familia Amador
We went out contacting by knocking on doors. We were in a part pretty far out in our area and we went down this passage that I guess you can call a street (drivers are too scared to go down it). We went to the last house on the street and knocked on it. We weren't too positive about it because it looked like an abandoned apartment complex. This girl responded and let us in. We talked with her mom for a while and learned that she is a member. She moved their right before the pandemic so she lost contact with the church. We learned that none of her 3 daughters have been baptized and that she would love that we teach them. She talked about how she loved the church but just lost in contact with it. She really wants to have her daughters have a testimony of the gospel. Looks like we just randomly found a super positive family. If we just go out and work, random little miracles happen so yay.

---Thursday--- Baptism Date!!!
We had exchanges that day. I was in my area with Elder Choc from Guatemala (Last names from there are weird if you didn't know).  We went and stopped by our investigator named Andy. We spent a while talking about his interests and we started asking about why he didn't want to get baptized. He had a strange misconception of the requirements and what it meant to be baptized so we were able to clear up his doubts and we now have a baptism date for him.

---Friday--- Lost in downtown Comayagüela
So we had to go to the area of our zone leader to do a baptism interview. Their area is literally downtown Comayagüela. Full of stores and businesses but not alot of people. We did the interview and had to go back to our area. We started down a path, and got really lost on the way. We asked some people about where to go and got turned around. Eventually we got back (after walking around for about an hour) and yeah, that was the entire day.

---Saturday---  "Encuentra lo que busca" (You find what you look for)
We had to invite people to attend the stake conference. We went and passed by every investigator and every member (took less time than you think). After running around the entire area for 1.5 hours (not long) we had to go to the stake conference.

We had a great time at the stake conference that night. Our mission president gave a pretty nice talk about it being necessary for everyone to help out in missionary work. He shared the great scripture Alma 6:6

Nevertheless the children of God were commanded that they should gather themselves together oft, and join in fasting and mighty prayer in behalf of the welfare of the souls of those who knew not God.

After that we had a talk from Elder Gonzales. He just gave a really good talk. He talked about how whatever we look for we find. If we try to find flaws in others or the church, we find them. If we come with an open heart, we can learn something. Our attitude about the things in the church is very important. Some people go years investigating the church but if they don't have an open heart to receive it.

---Sunday--- It's just been a good week
We had stake conference in the morning again, it was good. Elder Gonzales did talk about the fact that the members can do practically everything in missionary work. The priesthood keys for baptism are with the mission but all the rest the members can do.

This week has just been a really good week. Good meetings, some success. Other than getting lost in a sketchy part of town, we had a great week.

---Spiritual Note---
This week I came upon this passage of scripture. Verse 27 is pretty famous but I do just love the scriptures that came before it

Ether 12:23-27

23 And I said unto him: Lord, the Gentiles will mock at these things, because of our weakness in writing; for Lord thou hast made us mighty in word by faith, but thou hast not made us mighty in writing; for thou hast made all this people that they could speak much, because of the Holy Ghost which thou hast given them;
24 And thou hast made us that we could write but little, because of the awkwardness of our hands. Behold, thou hast not made us mighty in writing like unto the brother of Jared, for thou madest him that the things which he wrote were mighty even as thou art, unto the overpowering of man to read them.
25 Thou hast also made our words powerful and great, even that we cannot write them; wherefore, when we write we behold our weakness, and stumble because of the placing of our words; and I fear lest the Gentiles shall mock at our words.
26 And when I had said this, the Lord spake unto me, saying: Fools mock, but they shall mourn; and my grace is sufficient for the meek, that they shall take no advantage of your weakness;
27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

Sometimes we may feel insecure about writing down and Journaling our sacred experiences and fear what others may think about them (I know that I do), but if the Lord wants us to do it he will help us. I find it humbling that the prophets in the Book of Mormon felt insecure if their words would help anyone or be of any good, but the world today is so blessed because of their efforts.  This helps me to know to not be insecure and just try and hope the God can make up the difference.

Pictures with Details

Still no letter from Chaz this week, but we talked with him after he sent a bunch of pictures. Here are some of the photos with explanations: Elder Bahr and Elder Jarman at a river near their house. Cooling off in the water. No swimming! Elder Jarman teaching members how to make French Toast Teeter break during the day. There was a whole rabbit cooking thing, not sure if this is rabbit or not. Making corn - said it tastes like popcorn. Skinning and eating rabbit. Chaz says it tasted amazing.

Teaching, Music, Lessons and a Baptism

  Monday Spent the morning at the mission office. Bussed back and did my email and phone call. Played some basketball at the church. I'm not great at making 3pt shots but up close I'm decent. Tuesday - Got another baptism date We had district council and lunch with the district. There was a small restaurant? bar? behind a sweet shop. We had pollo chuco again. (Chicken covered  with sauces)  We taught this investigator, Esperanza who couldn't read but has been taught the lessons and wants to know if the church is true. She's currently having issues because her family and her family's pastor have been pressuring her not to go to church.  After the lesson we did her dishes using one of the outdoor "sinks". It was a large basin filled with water and had a ledge where you could wash your dishes. You get clean water from the basin, wash the dish, and you deposit the dirty water on the ledge because it had a drain.  Later that day we visited an inactive family wh...

Last Week (this is late, from the last week of October)

  ---Baptism--- We had the baptism of Nayeli on Sunday. She had been an investigator for a very long time (since last December) and many missionaries had given up on her. The entire ward attended which was great. We ran out of cake and there wasn't enough seating for everyone. It was great to see her take that step ---Another Baptism--- We attended the baptism of the bishop's daughter on Monday as well. The baptism doesn't count for us, but it's still great to see another baptism for the ward. We were able to help with the prep for it which was fun. We had to tape a mop to a broom to get the door open (hard to fill the font without the keys to it but we managed) ---Spiritual Thought--  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:6  I really like this scripture because of how well it describes the Holy Ghost. He helps us ...
