---Multizone with Elder Giuffra---
We were able to have a multizone with Elder Giuffra (pronounced yoofra). There were alot of great talks so you get highlights from all of them!

-Sister Baquedano
She gave a good talk on the purpose of Preach My Gospel. It was made to help us to declare repentance here in the mission. It teaches us what we can do to help people be purified from sin.

-President Baquedano
President Baquedano made a great comparison between the story of the brazen serpent in the bible to missionary work. The children of Israel were being assailed by venomous serpents and the only way to be saved was to do a simple act of faith. The brazen serpent for missionary work can be things like Preach My Gospel, the mission rules or the Scriptures. The venomous serpents are things that distract or waste our time. We can be protected from distractions if we do the simple things that help us grow.

-Sister Giuffra
Sister Giuffra shared this great scripture

32 And the Lord said unto Enoch: Go forth and do as I have commanded thee, and no man shall pierce thee. Open thy amouth, and it shall be filled, and I will give thee utterance, for all flesh is in my hands, and I will do as seemeth me good.

She taught us about opening our mouths and that if we do our part we will be blessed. We are responsible for doing our best and the Holy Ghost will do the rest.

-Elder Giuffra
Elder Giuffra had our mission call read out loud. He discussed the individual phrases of the call.
We are to:
--give service in the church
--be a worthy minister of the restored gospel
--be an official representative of the church
--live to high standards of conduct and appearance
--keep the commandments, the councils of the mission president and the mission rules
--dedicate all our time and attention to serving God
and
--set aside personal matters

He also stated we can't serve two masters so who do we serve?

---Interview with Elder Giuffra---
Strange enough, like what happened last year, I had the privilege of having an interview with Elder Giuffra. The seventies that visit don't interview many missionaries, I just have had the opportunity twice. This time the interview was in Spanish which I didn't mind. It was great to just talk about my experience as a missionary and how I am trying to improve each day. I just felt so much love from someone I met that day. The Seventy do a great job of being a representative of Jesus Christ and it was great to see someone who has become very christlike.

---Lost in the Jungle---

While we were trying to get to an appointment, Google Maps told us to go straight through the jungle. Concrete paths and tropical paths greeted us as we wandered around lost. We might be in a large city, but we still found our way into the thick jungle, somehow...

---Spiritual Thought---

"A boy growing up on a farm in western Canada learned a valuable lesson about work. Near his home was a road that passed between two farms. He noticed that the crops on one side of the road always seemed plentiful, but those on the other side were meager and thin. Why were they so different, he wondered? Rain fell on both at the same time. The sun shone on each side equally. Yet the same plants that were so abundant and healthy on one farm were sparse and weak on the other.

Curious, the boy observed the work of each farmer. It didn’t take long to notice that the successful farmer worked hard at his job — plowing, seeding, weeding, and harvesting. The neighbor, on the other hand, was rarely seen working the field.

With that powerful lesson planted in his heart, the boy grew to become a hard-working businessman, politician, and religious leader. Recalling his observations on that Canadian farmland, he said: “We must learn to set our priorities straight. No one can be successful in [their] line of work unless [they work] at it in the proper season and [play] in the proper season” (see “Worthy of Proper Recommendation,” by President N. Eldon Tanner, Ensign, May 1978).

Of course, too much work is just as unhealthy as too much leisure. We all need rest, relaxation and recreation. But ultimately, rest is enjoyable and satisfying after we have given our best efforts to meaningful work."

-Music and the Spoken Word 9/4/22

I rewatched this Music and the Spoken Word and it is still really good. Those last two paragraphs especially. We need to get our priorities straight or we won't be able to relax or have success. Leaving work undone is unhealthy and it does not bring forth leisure. Also, in our lives we shouldn't strive for leisure but the love of work. The last line (not included here) is Love of work is success and that is the truth. Doing something somewhat productive brings forth a happy life and a successful person is someone who has truly learned to love to work.

By the way, this talk is amazing as well

Pictures with Details

Still no letter from Chaz this week, but we talked with him after he sent a bunch of pictures. Here are some of the photos with explanations: Elder Bahr and Elder Jarman at a river near their house. Cooling off in the water. No swimming! Elder Jarman teaching members how to make French Toast Teeter break during the day. There was a whole rabbit cooking thing, not sure if this is rabbit or not. Making corn - said it tastes like popcorn. Skinning and eating rabbit. Chaz says it tasted amazing.

Teaching, Music, Lessons and a Baptism

Monday Spent the morning at the mission office. Bussed back and did my email and phone call. Played some basketball at the church. I'm not great at making 3pt shots but up close I'm decent. Tuesday - Got another baptism date We had district council and lunch with the district. There was a small restaurant? bar? behind a sweet shop. We had pollo chuco again. (Chicken covered  with sauces)  We taught this investigator, Esperanza who couldn't read but has been taught the lessons and wants to know if the church is true. She's currently having issues because her family and her family's pastor have been pressuring her not to go to church.  After the lesson we did her dishes using one of the outdoor "sinks". It was a large basin filled with water and had a ledge where you could wash your dishes. You get clean water from the basin, wash the dish, and you deposit the dirty water on the ledge because it had a drain.  Later that day we visited an inactive family wh...

Last Week (this is late, from the last week of October)

---Baptism--- We had the baptism of Nayeli on Sunday. She had been an investigator for a very long time (since last December) and many missionaries had given up on her. The entire ward attended which was great. We ran out of cake and there wasn't enough seating for everyone. It was great to see her take that step ---Another Baptism--- We attended the baptism of the bishop's daughter on Monday as well. The baptism doesn't count for us, but it's still great to see another baptism for the ward. We were able to help with the prep for it which was fun. We had to tape a mop to a broom to get the door open (hard to fill the font without the keys to it but we managed) ---Spiritual Thought--  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:6  I really like this scripture because of how well it describes the Holy Ghost. He helps us ...
