Baptisms: 0
Chaos Level: High
That just about explains the week.
---Baptism Dates---
Well after being sick for a few weeks I was able to work in my area again. We had 2 baptism dates to work with and alot to do. We went about trying to get the signatures of the parents of our baptism dates. We weren't able to do it and weren't able to baptize them unfortunately. We need to wait for the right time and keep on teaching them and maybe they will get there.
---Service Project---
We had a service project in which we painted an entire house. 3 bedrooms, the kitchen, everything. While we were painting and moving things around I lost my wallet (which turned out to be a blessing, you'll just have to read the rest of the letter to find out). After looking everywhere I couldn't find it. I had to go several days without it which was embarrassing to say the least.
---Robbed---
The good thing about losing my wallet is that a couple days later I got robbed. We were walking home at night way too late (9:20-9:40) and these two guys came on a motorcycle. We were threatened with a knife and had to give up everything of worth. The thing is- I had nothing of worth on me. All I had were 13 lempiras (50 cents) and the house keys. My companion had the phone stolen (which made things complicated) and alot more money. They barely even threatened me because I didn't have anything on me. Got lucky, very lucky.
I got my wallet back eventually by the way, it was at the service project. We didn't search very well.
---Transfers---
Sunday afternoon I received a phone call from my mission president (through my district leader's phone). He talked to me about leading an area and that I was going to be the only senior companion there. I was fine with it and told him I could do it.
This morning the transfers came and I am going to be sent to Guaimaca. A town in the middle of nowhere that has only a branch. It is also part of one of the districts that my mission has. I am going to be with someone who just got out of their training so this should be an interesting experience.
---Spiritual Thought---
36 And now, I say unto you, my brethren, that after ye have known and have been taught all these things, if ye should transgress and go contrary to that which has been spoken, that ye do withdraw yourselves from the Spirit of the Lord, that it may have no place in you to guide you in wisdom’s paths that ye may be blessed, prospered, and preserved—
37 I say unto you, that the man that doeth this, the same cometh out in open rebellion against God; therefore he blisteth to obey the evil spirit, and becometh an enemy to all righteousness; therefore, the Lord has no place in him, for he dwelleth not in unholy temples.
38 Therefore if that man repenteth not, and remaineth and dieth an enemy to God, the demands of divine justice do awaken his immortal soul to a lively sense of his own guilt, which doth cause him to shrink from the presence of the Lord, and doth fill his breast with guilt, and pain, and anguish, which is like an unquenchable fire, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever.
39 And now I say unto you, that mercy hath no claim on that man; therefore his final doom is to endure a never-ending torment
Mosiah 2:36-39
Heavy, right? I really like this part of King Benjamin's sermon. He explains pretty clearly the cost of sinning after having a knowledge of the truth. It made me think about what I could do to be better and not be in rebellion against God. After having received that witness, our mistakes have more consequences and we have to do better. It is pretty heaving but a striking reminder that we have to repent continually and try to do better each day.
